TIKTOK LIVE: DIGITAL INTERSTITIAL DISPLAY
I animated this ultra-large digital display project in collaboration with
the design team at Groundswell Experiential. Designs were created by TikTok.
Working at such a large format came with unique challenges: every element had to be designed with
resolution, pacing, and readability in mind. What feels fast or legible on a laptop screen can easily become
overwhelming—or get lost—on a massive display. I built the motion system carefully, testing transitions and timing
so that the piece stayed bold, clear, and impactful when viewed from a distance.
The result was an immersive display that combined technical precision and dynamic typography, translating the design team’s concepts into a dynamic experience that could hold its own in a high-visibility, high-impact environment.
BEHIND THE SCENES
To keep the animation flexible (and sane), I built the piece around
a series of null controllers and a clean parent hierarchy.
Core elements were grouped under a few master nulls—managing position, rotation, scale, and timing, so big motions could be crafted from limited control points instead of juggling dozens of layers. This setup sped up iteration: tweaks to pacing or spacing meant adjusting a single controller, instantly updating the whole sequence in sync.
Color and polish came from intentional gradient application. Instead of embedding looks in separate layers, gradient-driven mattes and adjustment passes handled lighting shifts and smooth transitions.
The result was a rig both technical and flexible. Controllers enabled precise, non-destructive motion control; parenting kept relationships organized; and gradients unified the visuals, enhancing depth and focus while maintaining a lightweight, scalable workflow.
